Terese Forster, LMFT
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist
I specialize in treating developmental trauma with the use of EMDR and somatic modalities. It is my primary goal to provide a nurturing caring environment to explore and process trauma wounds which fosters greater growth and healing.
I received my Masters degree in Somatic Psychology due to a deep belief and understanding of the body mind connection. Particularly, when working with trauma it is imperative to let the body speak. Through the advancements in neuroscience we know that the body holds emotions and trauma. My work is dedicated to helping people heal their traumas holistically and at a pace that feels right for them. I believe that this can only be achieved in a space that is comforting and with strong rapport between therapist and client.
I use EMDR, somatic modalities and neuroaffective touch with adolescents and adults. These approaches work best with trauma, low self esteem, body image, chronic pain and relational issues. I aspire to give my clients a nurturing space and presence, which will allow them to feel comfortable going to the uncomfortable places. In these uncomfortable places pain can be released and healing can occur.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): Is a therapeutic technique
specific to the treatment of trauma and PTSD in which clients recall their traumatic experiences while their therapist directs their sensory attention elsewhere.
Emotionally-Focused Therapy: In this form of psychotherapy designed for couples, attachment theory is applied to help clients form emotionally safe bonds with their partners by assessing each partner’s emotional experiences from childhood and patterns carried into adulthood.
Psychodynamic Therapy: A clinical approach that aims to promote self-awareness and insights by assessing how previous experiences have influenced current and ongoing behaviors. In this process clients gain perspective into behaviors and relationship issues that they may have not been fully cognizant of.
Relational Therapy: In this therapy modality, healthy relationships are seen as central to
emotional well-being. By emphasizing our relationships with ourselves and those close to us, relational theory helps build self-esteem and the power of inter-connectedness.
Somatic Experiencing: By emphasizing a client’s body and sensory experiences, clinicians
guide clients to release and process trauma stored within the body and overcome symptoms from PTSD.
