Samantha Gerson, LMSW

Licensed Master Social Worker

I work relationally and in a humanistic approach to provide a safe and nurturing space in which your difficulties and struggles can be understood, heard and treated. I hope to assist you in finding your passion and regaining purpose and hope. I help with trauma symptoms, both internally in the nervous system and externally (seen in behaviors), in order to help you achieve in your greater purpose.

I am  a Clinical Social Worker based in Los Angeles, CA. I have been recognized as a winner of Forbes 30 Under 30, 2020, and named an Honorary Faculty and Panel Speaker with Outlaw at Thompson Reuters. Additionally, I was also recognized as a Woman of Worth with L'Oreal Paris.  I have published two articles on her research of Conversion Therapy, and currently works as a therapist. In summer of 2018, I  started UnBroken, a nonprofit that offers free legal, therapeutic and vocational services to survivors.

I specialize in trauma, sexual/physical abuse, sexual identity issues, anxiety, and depression. I believe in humanistic principles, meaning I treat you as a "whole person" instead of just a list of symptoms. I integrate cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness into my approach, so we actively work towards goals while also addressing deeper issues.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): A form of talk therapy that trains clients to recognize patterns of unproductive thinking and learn healthier responses to challenging situations.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): A subset of CBT that emphasizes a skills-based approach to personal development and tools for controlling one’s emotional responses to stimulus.

Interpersonal Therapy (IPT): A therapy modality specifically designed for the treatment of depression that works by emphasizing healthier relationships and effective communication.

Relational Psychotherapy: In this therapy modality, healthy relationships are seen as central to emotional wellbeing. By emphasizing our relationships with ourselves and those close to us, relational theory helps build self-esteem and the power of interconnectedness.
