Leila Aboohamad,LMFT

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist

As a licensed Marriage and Family therapist with over 30 years in private practice, my emphasis is helping clients heal the early childhood trauma which prevents them from creating fulfilling and committed personal relationships and success in their chosen career/business. I use the Family Systems model to guide my clients in their exploring the messages received in childhood and the teen years which make-up their Life Script, the blue print for how they express themselves in every type of relationship and interaction in the world.

My own personal therapy in my early twenties opened the door to an entirely new world. Devastated by the death of my mother, I needed help in understanding my feelings, guidance in navigating a world which was suddenly so scary and figuring out where and how to express my gifts and talents. As I healed and gained confidence in my emotional health and understanding of who I was, I realized that my special gift is to help those people who are hurting, lost, confused and scared. I create a safe place for my clients by honoring and respecting their experiences and feelings in a compassionate and accurate manner and by always being genuine and authentic. I genuinely care for my clients, never judging them or their behavior as good or bad. I encourage them to be their true selves and model that behavior by my always being my true, honest and open self.

I have always resonated with Carl Rogers' humanistic psychology model which emphasizes "unconditional positive regard, empathy, acceptance and genuineness" on the part of the therapist. The Family of Origin model is a great roadmap and blueprint for how and why each client has "written" a Life Script. I love to work with adults of all ages who are highly creative, gifted and talented who are eager to grow and experience life with more understanding of their true selves.

Internal Family System Model: IFS promotes healthy internal connections with the divergent systems within the self and seeks to reset the relationships between client’s sub-personalities that are causing emotional tension.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR): a meditation-based therapeutic program designed to treat anxiety, depression, stress and pain by training one’s mind to build awareness of one’s body, thoughts, behaviors by focusing intensely on the present.

Humanistic Therapy: This approach approaches each individual for their authentic and unique self and encourages people to respect and trust themselves and come to a place of self-acceptance.
