Carri Brown, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Making a difference in the world is what led me to become a therapist. My practice utilizes insight, mindfulness and relationship to help clients see that they are not alone and that change is possible.
I specialize in psychodynamic therapy, which means that I truly believe that our past informs the present. Some of my favorite moments in therapy are when clients have an "Aha" moment and make a connection between a current situation and some long-held belief from childhood, and then together we find a solution to change the outcome.
Psychodynamic, mindfulness, relational, and play therapy are all modalities that I use extensively. I have had the most success working with adults going through transitions, adolescents who are discovering who they are, and children who have attachment issues.
Psychodynamic Therapy: A clinical approach that aims to promote self-awareness and insights by assessing how previous experiences have influenced current and ongoing behaviors. In this process clients gain perspective into behaviors and relationship issues that they may have not been fully cognizant of.
Play Therapy: Through observation and interaction while playing, therapists who utilize play therapy can gain insights into children’s emotional wellbeing and therapeutic needs; play therapy is designed to help children articulate emotions through non-verbal interactions.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR): a meditation-based therapeutic program designed to treat anxiety, depression, stress and pain by training one’s mind to build awareness of one’s body, thoughts, behaviors by focusing intensely on the present.
