Alison Shlomi, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
I founded my practice because I whole-heartedly believe that people can change and no one should have to do it alone.
My therapeutic approach involves compassion, exploration and insight. I believe that growth, change and self-awareness can occur through a strong therapeutic relationship between the client and therapist. My goal is to assist clients in coping with emotions and stress, changing self-destructive behaviors and better connecting with others. I work with many modalities, however feel that each client requires a unique approach. Together, the goal is to help you find solutions to your problems and offer new ways of thinking and doing.
I am trained to treat a variety of general psychiatric disorders and have specialized training in eating disorders, healthy relationships with food, addiction and chronic illness. Additionally, I work with symptoms including but not limited to anxiety, depression, addiction, grief and loss, relationship and family issues, self esteem, life transitions, social skills and trauma.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): A form of talk therapy that trains clients to recognize patterns of unproductive thinking and learn healthier responses to challenging situations.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): A subset of CBT that emphasizes a skills-based approach to personal development and tools for controlling one’s emotional responses to stimulus.
Psychodynamic Therapy: A clinical approach that aims to promote self-awareness and insights by assessing how previous experiences have influenced current and ongoing behaviors. In this process clients gain perspective into behaviors and relationship issues that they may have not been fully cognizant of.
